About This Coffee

Juicy berries, smooth oolong tea and a dark chocolate finish.

Meet Ethiopia Sidama Bekele Belachew Finchawa G1, a natural processed coffee from Bensa, in Ethiopia’s Sidama region.

If you like coffees that are fruity but still rich and comforting, this one’s for you.

Think sweet, juicy berries up front, then a gentle, tea-like body like oolong, and a satisfying dark chocolate finish that lingers.

It’s bright, balanced and easy to love, whether you brew it as filter or pull it as espresso.

Cup Profile

Berries · Oolong Tea · Dark Chocolate

The first sip is all ripe, jammy berries, sweet and fruity, the way a good natural Ethiopian should taste.

Next comes a smooth, delicate oolong tea character that keeps the cup clean and elegant.

It finishes with the deep, bittersweet richness of dark chocolate, which rounds out all that fruit.

Expect something fruity, tea-like and chocolatey, with a sweet, lingering finish.

The Producer

Meet Bekele Belachew, a family farmer from Bensa, Sidama.

Bekele owns 6 hectares of coffee in Sagara village, high in the Bensa district of Sidama. It’s a true family farm. Bekele, his wife and their six children do all the work themselves, from tending the trees to picking the cherries, which are then processed and dried at the family home.

The Farm

The coffee grows under the shade of native forest at around 2,100 metres. The family looks after the soil naturally with compost and manure, and they’ve recently started pruning their trees for healthier, more productive plants.

Bekele grows 74158 and 74160, two Ethiopian varieties developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center. Both were selected from wild coffee plants in the Metu-Bishari forest in western Ethiopia, chosen for their resistance to coffee berry disease and good yields. Coffee buyers love them for their bright citrus and floral character. This lot is 74158.

Why You’ll Like This Coffee

If you enjoy fruit-forward coffees with a bit of depth, this one gives you both: juicy berries for brightness and dark chocolate for comfort.

The oolong tea character keeps everything smooth and clean, so the cup never feels heavy. It works just as well as a bright pour-over as it does as a sweet, fruity espresso.

Try letting your filter cool slightly. The berries get juicier and the tea-like notes come through more clearly.

It’s a small-batch microlot scoring 88.25, grown, picked and dried by one family. Every bag supports a small farm selling its coffee directly to the world.
