About This Coffee

Castanhas do Brasil (which means “Nuts of Brazil”) is a carefully curated blend from the Cocatrel Cooperative in Três Pontas, Minas Gerais. The cherries are sourced primarily from the Carmo de Cachoeira region in Sul de Minas, selected for their clean, sweet profile and scoring 83+ in quality evaluation.

The processing is done using static-box natural drying: cherries are dried in 1‑meter-deep ventilated boxes, with air circulating from below to ensure even drying without turning the fruit. On the fourth day of drying, the cherries are mixed to promote uniformity, then they rest for 1–2 weeks before being milled.

This method brings out a more fruit-forward sweetness than typical Brazilian naturals, while retaining a smooth, nutty body

Producer Information

José Carlos and Flavio Reis are experienced coffee producers based in Carmo de Cachoeira, Sul de Minas, Brazil. Their farms are part of the Cocatrel Cooperative, which supports smallholder farmers with technical guidance, traceability, and access to specialty coffee markets.

The Reis family carefully selects cherries for the Castanhas do Brasil blend, focusing on beans that meet the cupping team’s criteria for a sweet, creamy hazelnut-praline profile and a score of 83+. Every step of their production — from selective mechanical picking to natural drying in static boxes — is managed meticulously to ensure consistency, quality, and distinctive flavor.

Their dedication to sustainable farming and quality processing reflects a commitment to both the coffee’s character and the broader community of Sul de Minas coffee producers.
